CARCHI CULTURE PLATE SMALL
Send Page To a Friend SIZE: Height 5cm Diameter 10cm.
This delicate little plate (actually it is more like a bowl) is a wonderful example of the artistic accomplishments of the Carchi culture in what is now Northern Equador.
Carchi, is home to towering mountains such as Volcano Chiles (4,768 m) and is Ecuador's northernmost province. The Carchi ceramics we have are typical examples for this region and demonstrate the importance that art played in everyday objects. This Carchi culture plate is a replica of those made over 500 years ago.
All our ceramics in this category are replicas and not originals, they are hand made by artisans to look as close to the original as possible using the original techniques. As all of the ceramics are hand made there will be slight variations between items we believe that this adds to the charm of the object.
Each of the ceramic artefacts is fair trade so by buying these objects not only will you have a beautiful and unique teaching resource, you will be helping to keep cultural art alive whilst supporting fair trade.
