The burning of copal has a long history in Meso-America and even today you will find copal being used for offerings and being burnt by the Cofradias on the steps of churches and other holy places.
In the abundant highly scented smoke produced when copal is burnt the ancient Maya believed that they could see ancestors as well as gods. In the sacred book of the Maya the Popol Vuh copal was offered to the four directions and was seen as an offering worthy of attention from the Gods.
As in many ancient civilisations the use / offering of incense was seen as an act of purification which linked a person or object to the gods.
This copal burner set gives you the chance to really bring the past to life in a memorable and unique fashion. Whilst you cannot recreate Mayan temple, with the aid of 'artefacts' you can recreate some of the smells, art and images so prevelant at the time.
All of our ceramic artefacts are replicas and are handmade in fairtrade communities in third world and developing countries.
